How to get started creating a LaTeX manuscript?

            —Use free templates

Templates are very useful

A good LaTeX source code starts out with many generic boilerplate commands as well as other commands scattered though the manuscript. It is not necessary for an author to learn all of these, because they can be found in readily available templates.

Your intended journal can provide you with a LaTeX template. Here are some samples in .pdf format generated from .tex files:

Elsevier typical journal sample: Elsevier template.

American Mathematical Society (AMS) typical journal sample: AMS template. (For a specific .tex template, check out the specific AMS journal you have in mind.)

IEEE transactions typical journal sample: IEEE template

Templates for many other journals can be found by searching on the Internet.

For theses, here are three sample templates:

University of California

University of Washington

Air Force Institute of Technology

These can be adapted to any other university. Your own university may be able to provide you with such a template.

For a free, no-obligation preliminary evaluation, send your manuscript (or sample) as an e-mail attachment to leeayoung@morrisb.net.
